Hankook has launched the Winter i*cept evo 4, the fourth generation of its flagship winter tyre line, targeting both passenger cars and SUVs. The new model claims 15% greater mileage than its predecessor — the Winter i*cept evo 3 — alongside measurable reductions in rolling resistance and rolling noise. The range covers 168 sizes from 17 to 22 inches.

What’s changed from the evo 3
Hankook engineers reduced rolling resistance by lowering the vulcanization temperature and optimizing the silica distribution in the compound — a method which, according to the manufacturer, also improves fuel efficiency and handling stability. Rolling noise was addressed through a redesigned tread pattern featuring diagonally cut tread blocks and revised central groove geometry.
The mileage improvement — 15% over the evo 3, according to Hankook’s press release — comes from a larger contact patch area enabled by the softer winter rubber compound. Hankook states this reduces wear rates while maintaining the grip characteristics needed in cold conditions. Snow braking and traction are handled by an updated tread geometry that the company states better interlocks with snow surfaces.
“With the new Winter i*cept evo 4, Hankook continues the successful history of its winter tyre family,” said Jongho Park, President and COO of Hankook Tire Europe. “The new model combines safe driving characteristics with maximum comfort. Reduced rolling resistance also meets the demands of uncompromising efficiency.”

Context: how it stacks up in the premium winter segment
The Winter i*cept evo 3 has been a consistent presence in independent European winter tyre tests — it has placed in the top half of ADAC and Auto Bild test fields in recent seasons. The evo 4’s stated improvements in rolling resistance and noise bring it closer to the efficiency claims of Michelin Alpin 7 and Continental WinterContact TS 870 P (★94), which currently set the benchmark for combined wet grip and rolling resistance in the premium winter category. Independent test data for the evo 4 is not yet available.
The Winter i*cept evo 4 is aimed at drivers of compact to large cars and SUVs seeking a winter tyre with improved longevity. The 15% mileage claim — if it holds up in independent testing — would be a meaningful step for a segment where running costs matter. Hankook has not announced retail pricing; the tyre is expected to be available ahead of the 2026–27 winter season. Availability in specific markets was not detailed in the press release.
